DISKPART & HDD help - Clean All interrupted, disk no longer found.

I have a new WD (Caviar Black) 1.5TB HDD. It was was in the middle of the Clean All process in DISKPART when it was interrupted during the process. It was not stopped via ctrl+c and a follow up run of 'Clean', but exited out of DISKPART and machine reset instead. Going back into DISKPART, the disk is no longer listed with the others HDD"s.

So, can this be fixed? Is this HDD now bricked because of a moment of sheer idiocy? This was pre-install on the win7 64 dvd, so no access to the OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Seven Forms.

Have you checked it in the BIOS? Is it there or not?

Please use a third party Partition Manager like Acronis Disk Director Boot Disk or Partition Wizard Boot Disk to find out if the HDD is visible in them. If yes then delete the partition, recreate and reformat it again. Then go back to DiskPart and it should have become visible again.

If it is not visible then unplugging and re-plugging the HDD may be of help.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already solved the issue and another involving BSOD upon startup of newly installed win7 Ultimate x64.

Luckily I still had the old HDD with the 32bit build of Win7 installed. Swapped SATA leads over and proceeded to re-detect, then reformat and partition with DiskPart.

The whole ordeal can be directly blamed at NVIDIA for their wonderfully useless and OS breaking HD Audio Drivers. Allowing them to (begrudgingly) re-install and disabling them allowed the graphics drivers to install without hanging the system.

Unless you are trying to make data unrecoverable by forensics then you only ever need Diskpart Clean Command, and you really only need it if you have install problems that require clearing the boot sector.

I would test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan and Disk Check.

hi! i have exactly the same problem and i really need help. Some days ago i was playing Battle field 3 and my sound lagged then i got blue screen. The sound lag was because of my nvidia hd audio driver. Now i get bluescreen at startup, black screen at safe- and repair mode, it only boots through my usb flash drive with installed windows and system recovery options list is empty!! no OS listed and when im typing diskpart then list disk into command promt, there is only my usb drive listed and nothing else. PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

Boot into BIOS setup to make sure the Win7 HD is detected. If not check the cables and connection, reinstall it if necessary, check again.

If it's detected start with the hardware tests and work through the steps here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

Hi valletitov,

If you are able to get into F8 safe mode advanced options, do not click on safe mode but navigate to "Last known good configuration" and Enter. Check whether it resolves the problem.( I did this on a friend's PC sometime back, when clicking on safe mode only took it again to Windows repair and the advanced options in that mode neither showed the OS or the system restore points but the last known good configuration brought Windows alive.)
