Display changes

Hi, my display sometimes changes from Monitor2 to Monitor1 where I lose all my desktop items. I have set Monitor2 as my default but it still reverts to Monitor1 sometimes. How can I prevent this from happening.

I have a NVIDIA Ge Force 7500LE graphics card, when I click on Screen Resolution it lists 2 Monitors - Generic Non-PnP & Generic PnP but I do not have 2 monitors (never had) connected. The Generic PnP one is OK but for some reason when I start up it reverts to the Generis Non PnP one.

Try uninstalling the graphics card via Device Manager, then do a fresh install of the drivers after rebooting. Or alternatively just try uninstalling the Non-PnP monitor and see if it forces the one you have connected to the primary display.

Hi Boozad, Thanks for your help - I have done both your suggestions and have even painfully reinstalled Windows 7 from scratch! Could it be one of the Windows updates that is causing the problem?

What cable are using to connect from your GPU to your monitor?

The same standard one that I have been using on this setup for the last 5 years. It is only in the last 4 weeks that this problem started.

Hi Boozad,
It went wrong again today and the only option I could use was Safe Mode - so I uninstalled the display driver, then it wouldn't re-install it so I went to the NVDIA site, downloaded the "Check your system" from there and it downloaded a different driver, so I think that might solve the problem.
