display driver problem again

Howdy

I have a post here addressing the same problem as before but I cannot find it.

The problem started a couple of months ago. Basically ud be working on the computer and for no reason the screen would go black and then flicker back and you'd get a message down the bottom stating the nvidia display driver had failed but has now recovered.

Now the problem has got worse and now the screen goes out black and wont come back. This may be follow by a little blue box stating that there is is now HDMI input.

The only way out of this is to reset the pc and when it comes back it is ok for a while.

I have tried installing all video drivers from the original disk and also downloading and installing the latest driver from the Nvidia web site.

I had some problem with some Physics driver in the package but think I have got that to go now.

This whole PC is less than 1yr old so I cant figure.

My first guess would be an overheating issue, either with the GPU itself or the PC in general is getting to hot inside the computer case. Have you taken the side panels off the case and blown out the PC thoroughly including the blades on all fans, especially the GPU fan? Does the PC have adequate cooling - IMO you can never have enough cooling?

There was some dust buildup in the intake mesh at the front of the tower, cleaned that. I recently installed a 200mm exhaust fan in top. I think it also has a 200 at the front of the case also in the storm enforcer case.

Stupid question. How would you actually blow out the case?

A can of compressed air from any retail store? What about the GPU fan? You will need the the compressed can of air to blow off the fan and the heat sink.

Ok I blew it out with the compressed air. This is what I found

1. The GPU fan and heatsink looked fairly clean, but I gave it a blow anyway
2. The CPU heat sink was chocker block full of dust.
3. Behind the front cover of the Coolmaster Enforcer tower between the large external case mesh at the front and the fan is a sheet of fine wire mesh. Really quite fine. This mesh was fully blocked with dust. air flow would have been minimal

So in fact I could have been overheating, system wide.

Hopefully this will fix all
