Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

Definite fixes

The problem here is related to hardware, not windows. I have fixed this problem twice now for 2 different people and the fixes were quite different.

First time, this error was quite frequent for someone when they would just be doing normal browsing. I inspected the graphics card and updated the drivers. The error disappeared for about a week. I then updated the software for the motherboard with an AMD all in one driver pack and the error was gone.

The second time, the user would get this error and bad graphics refractions while gaming. It only happened with graphic intensive games. After I tried the AMD fix and it did not work, I used a stability tester for the gpu. That would cause instant crash. I put gpu-z on the pc suspecting the gpu was over heating, that is how I discovered the low power going to the gpu. I looked inside and the card required 2 pci-e power connections. One of the connections was the correct pci-e connection, the other was an adapter that has 6 male fittings like pci-e but it is missing a center pin. Havine only one effective pci-e connection would cause the card to crash when the heatsinks fan would want more power.

hello , I started getting this error about 3 days ago from nowhere ( I didnt installed any drivers nor did I updated my windows or anything)
I didnt installed any new programs

my main video card is a gf8500 gt and the error apears whenever the video card is "used" ( like whenever I wanna watch a movie on youtube ) so I cant do anything except look at the desktop or browse my computer
I tryed switching back to WinXP . Everything is going perfect untill I instal the video drivers . after I restart the PC it freezes with a black screen when showing desktop

I tried switching to the onboard VGA witch is GF 6150SE same error but less offten . I can play games , watch movies . I still get that error sometimes after I recover my PC from stand by.

VGA itself

For people having the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" problem and the following Kernal-Power BSOD, try using a VGA cable to connect your monitor to the graphics card instead of a DVI cable. This worked for me for some reason, and I had no problems for over a week.

DVI is better than VGA ("DVI eliminates the analog conversion process and
improves the connection between source and display"),
but I dont see any difference tbh. It doesn't slow down anything (for me).

Don't know if this fixes the problem for all people. Let me know please :D

I have been connecting with VGA itself but i see this error and often with BlueScreen, i tried DVI for some days before and i don't remember to have seen any changes

- no matter which AMD/ATI driver - no support for display power save maybe less or not occuring on 32Bit OS, but constant on 64Bit, and fresh OS install and latest or former drivers make no difference.

The ONLY solution I found

:
DISABLE Display and System power save

"Turn off the display "= NEVER & "Put the computer to sleep" = NEVER
(from Control panel >> Power options >> Change plan settings)

Btw, leaving Harddisk sleep after X minutes will not crash the driver.
