Display keeps turning off

Hi, I'm having a problem with windows 7. Recently my home built HTPC running win 7 home premium x86 began having display problems (it was connected to my plasma via HDMI). The display would flicker, turn off, turn back on, turn back off etc. This got worse untill it mostly just stayed off. I replaced the graphics card but the problem persisted. I reinstalled windows and after a day or so the problem came back. So, I went all out and built a new shuttle HTPC with all new components, and installed win 7 x64. Where possible I used alternative applications (cyberlink burn2go instead of nero, powerdvd10 instead of media player classic etc.) After 2 days yet again my display turned off!
Is there a problem with a windows update that could cause this?
Surely I can't be the only one?

Hi, welcome to the forums

If new hardware and a clean install hasn't solved the issue then you need to start looking towards the TV as the issue

Do you have the possiblity of testing your HTPC on another TV to test that it works as it should?

That happened to me too. Was just a loose connection in my case.

I hate to ask such an obvious question but have you replaced the cable connecting your monitor to your tower?

The obvious questions are usually the best ones! Yes, I've tried another cable, with no joy

I'll try my mates tv tomorrow!

Cleaning your RAM with smooth cloth will fix the issue !!

Well, after a lot of time and money I have finally sorted the problem.
The HDMI input on my TV is failing. I have now connected my HTPC to another HDMI input and (as if by magic!) the problem has gone.
