Display nightmares on several games...

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would greatly, GREATLY appreciate it.

I've got some older games that just don't display correctly at all on Windows 7.
Actually, its so blurry it goes beyond frustration and borders on hilarity.

Here's a few examples.

Serious Sam 1 main menu

Serious Sam 2 main menu

Doom 3 (I clicked "something" and it pulled up this menu which displays as well as the something I clicked.)
doom3.png

Keep in mind, those screenshots are 1440x900 resolution in Windows 7 64bit.
I had these games back in the day on an XP system, and they displayed/played just fine. (of course the hardware was different too)

Serious Sam are GOG.com games, Doom 3, PCDVD.
I would also like to mention that I play Descent 3, which was released before all three of these aforementioned games, and it displays/plays just fine.

Before I have someone tell me to switch the compatibility to XP, I've already done that. Actually, I've tried every compatibility, even Windows 95.
I tried running the games on and off of disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
I've already updated my ALL drivers to the newest they could be. Sounds counter productive since its older games, but I still did it.
I have the newest version of Direct X installed.
I have the most recent patch of Doom 3 installed which is supposed to have Vista/7 support.

All of this, it and these games are so blocky, they're unreadable and unplayable.

Please help.

In nVidia control centre (not sure if CCC has it) you can set games to play at specific aspect ratios. Such as 4:3 which was the norm "back in the day" instead of modern 16:9, which may explain the issue, but it will result in black boarders at the edges of the screen

That's bizarre!

Could we have some detailed information on your system specs, specificially which videocard you have and what version drivers are installed for it?

There's no way this is a widescreen problem. Even rescaling/distorting the image on the monitor wouldn't cause that much blurriness.

No, there's something else going on here.

Bizarrely, the screenshots look just like the screens had originally been shrunk to the size of a desktop icon and then blown back up again.

The system specs I filled out in my profile and can be seen in the system specs tab with the applicable information. I'm sure I'll sound uneducated in stating this, but I'm not sure where to look on my PC in regards to driver version numbers.

You're absolutely right that this isn't a widescreen problem. The games display the same with those aspect ratios as well.

I posted this scenario on another forum and someone made a batch file. Apparently some people have had similar issues, and were able to resolve them by running the game in a window. Unfortunately, this did not work for me, as you can see in the picture below.

I want you guys to consider something else.

I play The Witcher on my computer too with my current setup. It displays beautifully, and its a newer game then the Serious Sam games I mentioned and Doom 3. (released October 2007).

Being that I can play newer, graphically better games than the first two Serious Sam's and Doom 3 (The Witcher) and older games (Descent 3), I'm inclined to believe that its a compatibility issue, and not a performance one.

Wishful thinking says that its just a matter of figuring out how to attune my video card to be more compatible with the games I'm having trouble with.

I appreciate the suggestions. Please keep them coming.
I'd like to resolve this, and so far, no one seems to have a clue!

:(

I downloaded and applied the accelerator.
I'm still showing the same results.

It is actually just a tad bit clearer, but its still a far cry from being playable or even readable.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
