So I have a Thinkpad T510 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M with a VGA out and Displayport out. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

For the past few months I have simply just used a VGA cord from the VGA out to the tv and used external speakers for my tv setup.

I recently bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter so I can pass both video and sound to my tv digitally.

Video and sound passthrough works just fine, my laptop picks the tv as a secondary display. But I can`t get it to run at 1080p. Over VGA it automatically set itself to 1920x1080 and never had an issue. Now over HDMI, it picks up at 1360x768 50Hz. NVIDIA control panel recognizes 1920x1080 as native but when I set it to that setting, the screen edges are cut off (top, bottom, left right), they are off the screen. I`ve read this is what is called "overscan", but I`m no television expert. I tried resizing the screen but then another issue became apperent, green dots all over the green like snow, in different positions as time passes.

I have ruled out the new DP to HDMI adapter by pluggging my laptop with the same adapter and hdmi cord to my ASUS VH222H monitor through its own HDMI input, automatically runs at 1080p with sound with none of the above issues.

I have spent a few hours reading through similar topics on this forum and others but most conclude with driver update. Unforunately since Lenovo opted out of Nvidia`s driver program, Im stuck with Lenovo`s driver which is quite old (Sept 2010) so thats off the table. I`ve read too this seems to be common with Windows 7 and not Vista and XP.

Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it? It would be nice to run my tv at 1080p from my laptop and not 1360x768.

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

The display actually isn't being duplicated, I have it set so when an external display is connected, the notebook display is turned off and the external display is used.
