I have 2 monitors connected to laptop but one stopped working. Well one stopped working a long time ago but then worked again. Then stopped working. I have a samsung t240 monitor old one connected via hdmi to hdmi to laptop. Other one is an asus that stopped working that i bought a cable... usb to hdmi and had dual monitor. I have to get a second monitor now and looking at the prices and choices... i could get one where it has hdmi but it cost a bit more than getting one with no hdmi. The asus monitor im looking at has displayport, dvi and vga. Of course i know vga is very old and should be avoided.

So i have 2 cables... hdmi to hdmi and usb c to hdmi. Either cable would work with my samsung syncmaster t240 because my laptop has 1 hdmi port and 1 usb c port. So if i get the 2nd monitor, this is the one

Amazon.com: ASUS C624BQ monitior: Computers & Accessories

Is it better for me to get hdmi to dvi cable for 7 dollars or usb c to display port for 15 dollars?

hdmi to dvi

Amazon.com: AmazonBasics HDMI Input to DVI Output Adapter Cable - 6 Feet (Latest Standard): Home Audio & Theater

usb c to displayport
Amazon.com: USB C to DisplayPort Cable 4K@60Hz, CHOETECH USB 3.1 Type C to DP Cable Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with 2017 iMac,MacBook Pro,Dell XPS 15/13,ChromeBook Pixel,Samsung Galaxy S9/Note 8/S8(4ft/1.2m): Computers & Accessories

1. Would the hdmi to dvi cable support 1920x1200 resolution? My monitor is 1920x1200 and so would be this monitor. I cannot use 1920x1080 and need 1920x1200. The usb c to displayport for sure would support that right? But is quality the same with dvi vs displayport? I read dvi is the same as hdmi. Its just avoid VGA?

2. I would like to eventually resell this asus monitor i like to buy. Now would the resale value of it be lower because it has no hdmi port? Almost all laptops have hdmi ports right? But most laptops don't have usb c port? I have a dell xps 15 9550.

Im trying to decide if i should pay say 55 dollars more or not getting an asus monitor with hdmi... or just getting one cheaper with no hdmi like the one i posted and having to buy that cable which cost 7 or 15 dollars.

First off I need to point out this caveat from Amazon.com: Plugable USB C to DisplayPort Adapter - 6ft (1.8m) Adapter Cable (Supports Resolutions up to 4K at 60Hz): Computers & Accessories

Requires USB-C port which supports "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" (not all USB-C ports/systems support Alternate Mode functionality) or Thunderbolt 3 port. Please note the Apple 12" MacBook only supports up to 4K@30Hz. Not a bi-directional cable, can only work with DisplayPort port displays. See additional compatibility information below
The USB-c will only work if your laptop puts graphics out through it. Not all do. That said you are probably going to have to go with DVI to HDMI or display if your laptop isn't compatible. Secondly you can't expect to get high def like you normally would using DVI to HDMI since the source is DVI. The special cable just allows you flexibility in cross connections from one type to another but it doesn't change the source type. If you want true high def you are going to have to get an laptop external graphics card. I suggest that you read these articles and perform your own search using your favorite search engine.

If you go that route you can use either HDMI or Display Port but you might want to check out these article before you decide which one to use.

DVI isn't as good as HDMI or display port and if you read those articles depending upon your needs Display port might be a better choice over HDMI for computers. You might also look into docking stations.
