DNS Lookup Failed

I just installed DSL in my house. It's all hooked up and when I try to access it with my laptop, both wired and wireless, I get DNS Lookup Failed. I've done some of the common suggested fixes:
  • Reset the modem and router
  • Manually set the DNS (using Google)
So, I'm at a loss. I know the computer itself is fine, as I've used it on other networks.

Admittedly, I'm not 100% certain the DSL is properly working, but I will speak with my ISP tonight to make sure that it isn't the issue.

Any suggestions would be good.

Try http://74.125.224.176 (that's its IP so not using DNS).

You have to untick Automatically parse links in text while posting if you want the IP address to show without any other method ;)

Welcome to Seven Forums tl6171. Some things you can try (none will do any harm if they don't fix your problem). If you can ping the Google IP address roncerr provided, then you have internet connection. Open an advanced command prompt:

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator> Type in the following pressing enter after each:

ipconfig /flushdns

net stop "dns client" (including the quotation marks)

net start "dns client" (including the quotation marks)

netsh winsock reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

See if this helps.

I unticked the "auto parse option" and got this: Google
Try again: http://74.125.224.176
It looks like you also have to uncheck "retrieve titles".

Let's see if I can also get it to print the four characters (W-i-n-7) without the dashes: Win7. (Guess not.)

(The other day I mistyped "shirt" on a forum and got "[bleep]" instead.)

Ahhh, or both perhaps? I just disable the link buy adding color tags. Thanks
