Do I Have The Latest Version Of Internet Explorer 11?

Greetings,

Internet Explorer 11 has served me well these last few years, but is now becoming somewhat of a problem as a few sites for me have become IE unfriendly and I am always told by people at these sites to use Chrome or Firefox. They seem to acknowledge the problem with IE and don't care to ensure that their website is still compatible.

So before I make any sort of jump to another browser, I just wanted to make sure that I am actually using the latest version of IE 11 performance wise as opposed to security issues. I have it set to automatically install updates, so I am assuming that I have the latest version.

In addition, it is my understanding that Edge does not work with Windows 7 - is that correct or is there a way to get it to work despite what Microsoft may say.

Thanks for you help.

HM

Hey Ranger 4,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I can't access the link. Microsoft says my brower is not supported.

I am not the most savvy person when it comes to this sort of thing, but do security updates improve performance when it comes to surfing the web and being able to access all kinds of websites or is it more fixing of bugs and vulnerabilities when it comes to malware, etc. Or does it do both?

Are you still using IE11?

Thanks again.

There might be an IE update included in that Roll Up.

Plenty of others to choose from. Probably some you haven't heard of.
For example, Brave was set up by one of the cofounders of Mozilla. Be Brave

Palemoon is also popular The Pale Moon Project

Hey Man, sorry about that link & I see it doesn't work. You will probably need to download & install the whole July Update which can be found at Seven Forums News page & the link for that is below.

July 18, 2018 - KB4338821 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

As you are running Windows 7 64 bit you will need to download the 64 bit version, which you will see is at the bottoms of Brink's opening thread. After it has downloaded, install it & this should bring your IE 11 up to date.

Yes I still use IE11 & Opera for all my web browsing.

Hey Ranger 4,

Yes, I am running the 7 64 bit, but are you sure the IE 11 update is included with this? Is there any description of what is included with the IE11 update? Do updates make IE11 better in terms of being compatible with 2018 internet sites or does it just fix past glitches?

I was under the impression that once Microsoft launched Edge - Internet Explorer was dead to Microsoft and they would no longer be supporting it with updates.

Sorry that I am sort of clueless with this. I am surprised that I wasn't notified by Window 7 Update about this to install.

Since you still use IE11 - do you come across sites that won't load properly or that simply say your browser is no longer supported?

Thanks again,

HM

No, I haven't had any problems with IE11.

How up to date in your Windows 7 & do you install all the updates?. I install all Windows Updates, especially the monthly Roll Up ones, as they include important security updates. MS is now rolling up a lot of updates in the Monthly Roll Ups & they are not listing everything that's included, that's why it's important to install them.

MS is still updating IE11 as this website will verify. Open the following MS website & click on line 6, you will need to count down to line 6, which is the IE11 for Windows 7 x64 version. This will open a dialogue box explaining the update & you will also notice it's listed as critical. Close the dialogue box & then click on Download. The update is 52.5 MB.

Once it's downloaded, click on it & install it.

Thanks I will try that link.

As far as updates to Windows 7 - I don't always do that with each update that pops up. Windows 7 has worked beautifully for me, so it's sort of like if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

Do I need to do each update individually from months past or can I just do the latest Windows 7 or IE11 roll up and I will be up to date - I just noticed through my own search that there have been a few IE11 roll ups.

Thanks again.

In this day & age with internet security & with all the rogues trying to hack into every computer, it is very important that Windows is updated.

As far as I know the latest Windows 7 Monthly Roll Up does include all the previous updates, but I can't be sure of that.

If you are lagging with Windows Updates, perhaps you should install the complete July Monthly Roll Up that I pointed to in Post #5. Which is:

July 18, 2018 - KB4338821 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

This update should also include that IE11 update.
