Do i reformat a SSD using Windows or another way ?

If i need to reformat do i need to do a secure erase or just do it the way most do it with Windows?

Do i need to do a command prompt for a second time and enter the below:

Diskpart
List disk Select disk _
Clean
Create partition primary align =1024
format fs=ntfs quick
active
exit

What do you plan to do with the ssd after you format it? If you just want to format it and use it as a data disk then you don't need to do anything special. If you plan to install a new OS, just run the installer and it will give you the option to delete the partitions during install.

If you plan to sell the ssd as a blank drive then you may consider running something like Darik's Boot & Nuke to nuke your personal data.

If you are installing an OS just let the installer do it during the installation process. Diskpart is an advanced tool that most computer users aren't even aware of. A secure erase is a security measure to prevent recovery of the previous files. Unless you are selling the drive there is rarely a need. For a storage drive you can just format it from Disk Management.

It all depends on the reason for formatting. Don't make things more complicated than they need to be.

Your commands are correct - except for Select Disk which is a seperate command and should be Select Disk n where n is the SSD as shown in List Disk.

Thanks guys , the only reason i would reformat is if i got into some brutal malware . WHS, yeah the commands i got from you so they should be familiar lol.

When select disk was typed in Command Prompt the SSD showed the disk being the # 0 so it said the selected disk is now 0 and all progressed fine .

Is this a serious mistake and do i need to re do it?

Oh, i had another question , i heard it's not good to let the computer hibernate when you have an SSD , when i step away from the computer for awhile should i just hit sleep or whats the preferred routine?

Hmm, Maybe because its possible cause of an SSD Fail? Not sure.

I heard something about it writing when in hibernation mode but i don't know .

If it is on the 0 port, than it's ok.

I have never heard this hibernation story. But if you don't use it, you can eliminate the hiberfile and save some GBs on the SSD. The command is powercfg -h off

Hibernating uses more writes

For those who have an SSD-endowed laptop, note how hibernation mode differs from sleep mode in SSD usage. When your computer hibernates, it stores open documents and programs to the SSD and shuts down completely. Sleep will pause everything, but it won't write to the drive.

There are downsides to sleep mode: It uses a little more energy than hibernation, and if your battery runs down, those sleeping files are toast. In the case of an SSD, however, it makes economic sense in the long run to use a little extra power to avoid making unnecessary writes to the drive every time you step away from your system.
