Well it would be illegal technically to tell anybody to use ComboFix and charge them money afterwards seeing as it violates the GPL by refusing it's source.

I'm not trying to insult anybody, as this is a noble pursuit, but spotting a line in a log from Hijackthis or whatever tool might be used doesn't exactly require intimate esoteric knowledge that must be purchased. Which is more where my negativity is directed.

Sorry, I must be missing something here, what made you bring up charging people? I've read my post again and I honestly don't think I said that, if I did then I'm willing to hold my hands up and admit my mistake. I just want to note, in case I am at fault here, my training is free and is run by volunteers

This is a 'specialized/heavy duty tool' and it can render your computer as a doorstop if not used without trained supervision.

Please don't download and run it unless you are asked to do so by a "certified" malware instuctor who has gone through the use and special training of this Application.

Well agree Hydranix and like I said in another thread last night when I saw that doco on Anonymous it makes us worrying and arguing about security a bit a of a waste of time.

To be honest like that fellow said you go swim with croc and you will get bitten. I personally think the security we use and discuss at tedious length is alright for your everyday crims and spammers whatever but people like the organisation I mentioned you have no defence against at all I suppose unless you devise a cypher between yourself and whoever you might contact.

What I will say though is that the attitude was well out of order and quite frankly rather playground in nature. I for one hope he found the dummy wherever it went:sarc:

Wow that was close, I'm currently doing my Live Log at GeekU and had my instructor download Combofix two days ago. Wouldn't be good if I'd made the VM more infected than it was in the first place!

Hi guys, i am a trained Malware expert. I have been removing infections for around 9 yrs. over at G4 Tech Support, which is closing down cause of a buy out by Esquire, so i have offered my services here to which was accepted. I agree totally with Jacee, i have seen a few instances wher Combofix rendered users computer a door stop ! So please if you are thinking of using it untrained think again !

I have the experience/training in analyzing logs from Combofix, OTL logs, DDS logs, HJT logs, and how to set up fixes in all of them and many other tools/programs. I am up to date on all the new tools/programs used in the fight aganist Malware. If you questions on my experience look at my 9 yrs of doing logs. I am flashh4 there also.

Sorry if I came across as doubting your experience; I can assure you that I didn't mean this at all

The malware removal experts category is for security developers (sUBs, Attribune, S!R! etc. all fit into this category) whereas malware removal analysts (like, what sounds like, you, and I) simply have the experience with the tools themselves. I was just curious whether it was just a simple misunderstanding or whether you had a tool out there that I hadn't come across before, that's all.

Ah!! So you are trained in this also. Some people are, and that is good to learn.

Jacee, tom982, myself, and I'm sure there are others, attended and graduated from one school or another.

Lots of work and analysis involved, though. Some of them even test you.

What school(s) did you get trained at, and graduate from?
