Do you guys think this gaming PC from Craigslist is worth it?

I`m with Doug.

The GPU and the PSU are the only things I don`t like on it, and possibly the case.

Damn, wouldn't it even be possible to trick a PC into showing the wrong CPU? Even a fake GPU? That would be going all out on the scam, that'd be a good scam though. Thinking of the worst possibility.

I'm not sure how to fully protect myself....

Best way to avoid a scam is to not participate in it ;)

Seems you have 750.us
You can get a nice build going for that much and not have any doubts at all about what you have :)
Cases are about 109.00
Boards hell you can get a z87 for 99.00us
Cpu 3-400.00 I can't remember how much the i7 4970k is going for ?
Psu ? 200.00 depending on what brand

4th of July sells will be a good time to jump in :)

I`m with Doug.

The GPU and the PSU are the only things I don`t like on it, and possibly the case.

The GPU meets the recommended requirements for most games except Witcher 3 and upcoming games like B:AK and AC:S, but I do have a GTX 970 that I got for $260 I could put in. The PSU is a 550 Rosewell capstone gold series. PCPartPicker is showing no issue with the PSU: Intel Core i7-4770K, EVGA GeForce GTX 970, BitFenix Prodigy (Black) - System Build - PCPartPicker

And the case has good reviews for mini ITX.

So about protecting myself, how about I get his name from the receipt he will email me, I ask him if he purchased it himself, ask him if that is his name, ask him where he works, call his work to verify he works there, and when I go to pick it up verify his ID. Would that work you think?

The other option is to buy a power inverter like this one:

Energizer EN500 500 Watt Power Inverter - Newegg.com

In order to test it from the car. Bring my own benchmark software on a CD. I don't like this as much, it's a bit of work.

According to PCPartPicker this would cost $1200 brand new. With used deals on eBay I got the price to $880 with a z87 instead. And I'd have to put it together and the parts would be in varying degrees of quality being used. This guy says this build is basically brand new. If I can do my best to protect myself, I'd end up with a good deal.

All that sounds legit but one thing i have never heard ever of a HD7970 using such a small power supply when i had Crossfire they needed atleast a 600watt to power one correctly 2 would run with a 800watt because they wouldn't use as much power together

Actually it's a 550 watt. PCPartPicker doesn't have a problem with the wattage. Maybe you had a better CPU, more harddrives maybe? (not sure how much of a difference that makes)

Btw the Mobo and CPU would be about $700 on it's own i would take someone that knows parts real well and can smell BS when it comes time to let the person know you smell it :geek:

I definitely would if I knew anyone with this knowledge.

As i stated in my first post, what you are being offered does not work out in terms of hardware / cost...

Oh, I was talking about the wattage.

A 3 mm overage I assume wouldn't make it non-compatible. If you say it would, I will believe you though. Are these things that strict that you can't go over by a millimeter? EDIT: So I did find this article that says with careful wire routing you are able to fit a 163mm PSU:

A quick look at BitFenix's Prodigy enclosure - The Tech Report - Page 2

The PSU bay is tight, with barely enough clearance for the Rosewill Fortress 550W units packed into our rigs. We had to route cables carefully just to get that PSU into the chassis. Admittedly, we're exceeding the maximum size by a smidgen. Our units are 6.4" (163 mm) long; the official FAQ recommends using PSUs no longer than 5.9" (150 mm), and it identifies the maximum length as 6.3" (160 mm). You're better off sticking with shorter ATX units to avoid the hassle.

Happily, thanks to the Prodigy's width, there's plenty of room for excess cabling on either side of the PSU. The motherboard tray and second internal wall are perforated with routing holes, making it easy to lace a relatively clean layout with only the zip-ties included in the box. I also like that the power supply sits on fat rubber bumpers to dampen vibration. The reversible back plate is a nice touch, too, especially given the filtered grill in the bottom panel.

For the GPU, it says it supports the video card, just that some drive bays may not be usable. (That message comes up with the 7970 too.)

As for the H100, it just says it is unable to verify, not that it is surely non-compatible. There are builds of the Bitfenix Prodigy with the H100, so I assume it is compatible.

Here are pictures of it:
