Firstly the 3 'no' must be a type (7267 screens LOL).

Secondly for an OS to recieve SUCH an ovation (standing, at that!) while it's still in it's beta stages is just outstanding. Sure, there are issues, but that's not 100% the fault of the OS, manufacturers/developers also need to catch up :p

Can't wait to walk into my local retailer & pick up a nice new shiny copy of Windows 7 and hand my money over. I can already see the bewidered look on the casheir's face, even after I tell him/her that i've been using it as my main OS since January LOL

Are you using the right OS? As for the games not working, that is because they were not made for Windows 7. Firefox is at 3.5 and I have had no problem with it. You know you can open new windows by right clicking on the icon that is on your jumplist, right?
I didn't know this. Thanks. But it is 2 clicks, not 1. Waste of time.

Not going to be rude. :)

One extra click is not going to make the world come to a stop. For an overall better Operating System I think people could live with one extra click.

If you do not like the OS why are you even using it if you do not mind me asking?

Well Vista made my eyes bleed with rage. and XP is getting up there in age, so yeah, Windows 7 is the pwnage!

You forgot to mention the ugliness of XP. :)

As for the poll, I voted yes. XP/Vista ran fine on my computer but with Vista Halo 2 would lag like crazy, and I didn't feel like hacking Halo 2 to install it on XP.

Atleast with W7 I get the best of all worlds (except the linux/osx world), Speed, beauty and performance. :D

Windows 7 far outperforms both XP and Vista. I was running XP on a netbook with 1GB of RAM, and it was unbelievably slow. Load Windows 7 onto the same machine, and it absolutely flies, even with Aero turned on.

Yes, against Vista but I'm refusing to vote on the grounds that you cant really put it up against XP...

It's like comparing the newest Lambo with one of their old tracktors lol! Different ball game IMO. (runs for cover......)

Compared to XP:
7 is just as fast if not faster.
It's also a huge upgrade in the user interface and experience department.

Out of the box support for devices is also vastly superior.
I'd like to see you install XP and immediately after, open world of warcraft.
You can't. You must first install motherboard chipset drivers, Graphics card drivers, and most likely sound and wireless drivers as well.

Both:
The underlying core of the OS being coded for better multi-cpu awareness provides speed improvements to multitasking or multi-threaded applications.

The new taskbar is awesome.

Vista:

Tweaks have been made to the user interface to make those hard to find options; easier to get to.

Better device support.

The aero desktop effect is much less likely to disable itself at any given time.
This is most apparent when playing a video game.
This greatly improves UI consistency going from task to task.

Due to the improved aero code, Multi-Media-Tasking also has much better support.
On vista; Play a video on your second monitor, then load a game on the main. Aero is kicked down to basic, screwing up the playback of the video on your second screen. It's not very pretty and is the main cause of me not using vista.

Vista is still slow.
The service packs did fix a some bugs, but when it came to speed, they were more a placebo then an improvement.
7 is FAST FAST FAST FAST FAST FAST FAST.

General perception.
Vista was viewed as bloated, slow, incompatible, headache inducing piece of garbage. And still is today.
When 7 reached public beta, It was already viewed as being worlds better in every department. The public perception on 7 is highly favorable.

5 "No" votes?

Who does that?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion/vote here I believe. While I agree WHO DOES THAT!? A lot of people these days still do not like change (even if its for the better), or find one little tiny thing ruins the OS for them (keyword: tiny).

Over Vista? Absolutely. Over XP? Eh, it's a wash. There are things that I really like about NT6.1 (the new task bar) and things that I can't stand (like the removal of the advanced search builder).

bring on the onslaught.

although i like 7 it just isnt what i excpected it to be or even near that. yes xp is old and ugly and vista is eye candy and sluggish but this is just even more eye candy and apart from saving a bit of ram 7 is nothing groundbreaking. dont know if i had too high excpectations but i excpected a bit more/beter than this.

Lol. For me it performs no better than Vista SP2 - in fact 7 boots slower.

For others - especially those with yer average laptop - I expect 7 will perform better - that is what it was built for.

They will now be able to able to experience all the great things about Vista - which previously required a certain level of competence from the hardware and the user.

That has to be a good thing.

Huh that is rather funny....I am assuming you are talking about your public specs right? My desktop (not in the specs) is pretty identical to yours....same GPU, same CPU, same RAM, MOBO is different but has similar specs and yet your performance on 7 is lesser compared to Vista SP2? Real odd....as I am in a totally different story here....

I voted no also. I do like Windows 7 don't get me wrong, but it's not a huge improvement over Vista. Basically it's just tweaks and such.

I'm disappointed that the OS is just as bloated as Vista. I realise hard drives are getting bigger and bigger, but the size difference between Vista/7 versus XP is huge. Whatever happened to lean and mean....

Windows 7 is bloated?

I personally think everyone is expecting way to much from W7, especially with lower end machines.
