Documents & Settings Directory Required

Hi

When I was naive about setting up my MapInfo workspaces under XP I put them under the Documents and Settings. Unfortunately having upgraded to Windows 7 I need to have them under the same directory route to ensure that they work.

I have tried to create the Documents and Settings directory but Windows 7 wants to put it into users. Any suggestions?

Welcome, jclew1!

In Windows 7 there is no Documents and Folders folder. The role of this folder is now played by the Users folder. There is in fact a "Documents and Folders" link that can be used for older software, this however is not really a folder, but a link to Users. So, you don't have to create such a folder, it's already there for you in the form of this link.

Thanks, but the workspaces for MapInfo have the stored pathway for all of the associated files and in the workspace file that brings up all of the associated files the directory is C:/Documents and Settings/... . How can I set up the directory in Windows 7 to enable the workspace file to call up these other files?

What I meant John, was that this directory already exists. It exists as a link though, but that does not matter to you. The whole purpose of this is for backwards compatibility in cases like yours. So, you don't need to set anything up, it's already there. The reason you don't see it in windows explorer is that it's hidden. Thus if everything will work as it should, your program will show you the files that are located in the Users folder while thinking it is accessing the Documents and Settings. So, just install it and run. You might need to use compatibility mode and possibly run it with elevated privileges, but that depends on what the program actually does, meaning whether it wants to write to secured locations.
