does 7 "hide" 1 jpg thumbnail if another almost identical one exists?

i have two jpegs that are almost similar. 1 is just an edit of the other. save for one or two minor image changes and a slight recrop, they are for all intents and purposes the same. BTW i also gave them different file names.

when i transferred both to another computer desktop, ONLY ONE OF THEM appeared on my desktop as a thumbnail, even though in explorer they were both listed as files. i even transferred both to another folder with the same results, ie explorer listed both files but in the folder the thumbnails showed only one of them.

i mean what gives.
i've placed two exact files in the same place and one is renamed as a (1) of the other.

Short answer is "No" W7 does not hide any thumbnails. If sometimes the thumbnails do not display properly, then you can Clear and Reset the Thumbnail Cache by one of two methods, as instructed in this tutorial :ar: Thumbnail Cache - Clear and Reset. Trying the tutorial may resolve your issue.
