Does allocated space for sys restore affect allocated space for backup

Hey guys, quick question. I just allocated more space to my system restore to ensure that when i back up files/docs there will be sufficient space. But does the allocated space for system restore affect at all how much space is allocated for backup? If not, i will would like to turn back down the allocated space for the restore. Dont want too many restore points Thanks alot for the input!

System restore data is kept on your primary partition, backup data would need to be stored on another partition or better still - another drive, so the answer is no.... but that said if you're asking will the space allocated for System Restore affect drive imaging backups, then the answer is it will increase the size of the backup images...

That said, why would you need to operate both System Restore and Drive Imaging?

Your first priority should be imaging. Some restore points are convenient for a qicky restore (if it works) and to quickly recover lost data. But I would not allocate more than 3 or 4GBs for the shadowstorage.

Should restore points be saved on C: or D:?

I just realized i posted a stupid question that had allready been answered ha. So im editing my reply with a better question lol - Im a little confused what you mean by shadowstorage... is that my backups of folders, etc? Does that mean I should be allowing extra space for those in my allocation for system restore? Or is the allocation for system restore points and for backup two different settings... Thanks (P.S. I do realize that imaging would be the best way to go and is not quite the same as a backup if that helps..)

You should have restore points on both, especially on the data partition. Your data needs more protection than the OS which can always be reconstructed one way or another. But when you lose your data, that will be a sad day.

Btw: the shadowstorage has to stay with the OS - except in Server systems.

Personally I turn OFF system restore, and make incremental backups on a large enough secondary HDD to allow me everything from Bare Metal stage to finalised additional stages. I also back up my secondary HDD to another drive in case of total disaster
