As my title says, when you do an Upgrade Installation in Windows7, will you keep your User Accounts and Groups or will you have to create new ones on the new OS?

All I know(or at least think I know...) is that upgrade installations keeps the data in the default windows directories such as libraries, my docs etc...

Thank You

It will retain all of your user accounts which presumably means the groups will come along, too. The installer will inform you whether it can't hold on to something.

Which OS are you upgrading from?

Consider upgrading to Windows 8 too!

Thank you for your answer. Appreciated. No I just wanted to know, I'm not upgrading, studying for CompTIA and the study material didn't make that part clear...

Consider upgrading to Windows 8 too!

Why would you recommend Windows 8? Many people say that its crap...But most people don't know what is happening under the hood - Does it differ a lot from 7 under the hood like 7 differs from Vista?

Why would you recommend Windows 8?
It's a great operating system. The advantages it has to offer are definitely worth the consideration at least, including the cheaper cost of the OS itself, among other things like performance differences.

Many people say that its crap...But most people don't know what is happening under the hood - Does it differ a lot from 7 under the hood like 7 differs from Vista?
Many people say a lot of things!

Yes and no — things have been changed, added and removed as you would expect.

I think there is a lot more optimized assembly code for some of the more mindless repetitive tasks that most Windows users perform. I also noticed faster navigation in the entirety of the shell, and Windows Media Player managed to populate my library faster. The UI looks a lot better, and there's more consolidated and effective informational delivery systems across the shell. Task Manager, for example, is in itself worth the upgrade.

In my professional opinion it is a better functioning Windows 7, and this article is synonymous on that: Living with Windows 8: On the desktop, it's just a better Windows 7 | ZDNet

Thank you Layback Bear. Thank you LuzTeTT, since you are the first professional power user to recommend Windows8 (all the folks bad mouthing it don't know much about computers other than gaming, facebook and youtube...). I always believe that Microsoft would never release a new product if it wasn't better than the predecessor. Even in the case of XP and Vista...Yeah, Vista had annoying traits (which was fixed in 7) but its still better than XP...
