Solved Does Easy Transfer automatically copy all Live Mail files (i.e. eml)

Hi All,
I apologize if this is a repeat, but I could not find my exact case.

I used WET to transfer my data from a 32bit Win 7 install, then installed Win 7 64 bit to the same P.C.

I had been using Live mail previoulsy, but now I cant seem to find my 'eml' files in the EasyTransfer file.

In the MIG file, I looked all through //AppData/Local/Microsoft but all I see under that is 'WindowsMail' (and there are NO eml files in there)

But when I put Live Mail on the new installation I see //AppData/Local/Microsoft/WindowsLiveMail.

In other words, I seem to have NO WindowsLiveMail directory in the WET MIG file.

Should WET have copied these for me automatically? Or did I specifically have to ask for it to save the Live Mail files?

This shows the storage location: Where Does Windows Live Mail Store My Mail? | PCWorld.

I would unhide Hidden files at Control Panel>Folder Options>View and browse to that location to see if EasyTransfer copied them in and they are not being loaded for some other reason related to the new Mail program's setup.

In the future I would not use EasyTransfer because of problems we see here with it causing data loss. It's much easier to drag your active User folders to external for backup, but you'd normally not want the hidden AppData settings as they are a corruption path into a clean install.

If you have an onboard mail app that isn't stored in the cloud like webmail then it's critical to back it up first. It's file location can easily be found via Google, for any backup that it won't let you export from the mail program itself.

I think I panicked too soon. Right after I did the restore, I didn't see any of my old mails that were not on the IMAP server. (From when I was still using POP3).

It must have taken a while for Live Mail to see them after Easy Xfer copied them into place, because they all seem to be there now.

Anyway, thanks for your advice and I won't blindly trust Easy Xfer again!
