Was wondering whether my computer will work with Windows 7. I have already gone on the website to download the programme from Microsoft that tells you yes or no and I have cleared that test only with the warning that if I choose 64-Bit I will need additional RAM. My only concern is is that someone I know also cleared the test and their motherboard wasn't compatible. The specs I can find are written below-
Microsoft® Windows® Vista Home Premium
Denver 10 Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180
NVDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nFORCE 630i
2.00 GB RAM
220 GB HARD DRIVE

Welcome to SevenForums delilah95 :)

I looked at the PackardBell info, & could not see exactly how much more Ram you could add to that motherboard.

You could try a couple of other FREE programs to check out your system info.

Should be fine in 32bit, the shared video may limit some graphic features. 64 bit may have driver problems.

Thanks for the Greeting :p and extremly quick reply.

Unfortuantely the actual Packard Bell Website is extremly uninformative.
Althought RAM isn't a issue according to Microsoft with my computer I am just unsure of doing things incorrectly and messing the computer up big time!
Thanks for your advice I will look into the programmes you have listed and see if I can find any additional information.

Thanks :)

What is mean't by shared video?

Video that uses the system RAM, rather than dedicated video memory.

It will limit the amount of RAM that's available to Windows. However, you only need (I think) 128MB of video memory to support Aero Glass (3D features of the Win7 desktop), so that's basically negligible if you have 2GB of RAM.

As you're already running Vista on the system, it's unlikely that any of your peripherals would lack drivers. You may need to download the chipset drivers:

NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.49 WHQL

if the Windows disk doesn't already contain them.

I can't guarantee that you'd find Win7 to be a worthwhile upgrade, but it appears that you should be able to do it. I recommend a custom (clean) install over an upgrade-in-place, but you can do either with the (cheaper) retail upgrade version.

Cheers and I run WinVista so I would rather upgrade then remain in PC's armpit of hell!

I hope that you're not too disappointed with 7. It's an upgrade from Vista, but the practical differences aren't vast (as far as I've seen).
