I have a new system that came with Vista 64 which had been problematic from the start so I downloaded Windows 7 RC Ultimate 64 build 7100 and loaded in on the hdd after shrinking it with Vista.
The load went very well and W7 ran very slick for a little over 3 days, Vista fell apart the day before W7 did so I suspected the image they used to load Vista may have been the problem so I reloaded Vista and W7 the next day after formatting their respective partitions.
Things were OK for a couple of days with both systems then freeze ups on both, didn't matter if the PC was idle, working on photos, email, on the web it would freeze so I place a support call on the system and while doing the diagnostic utilities I got a Grub Hard Drive Error and the system froze. Tech support had me update the BIOS, reseat the hdd and rerun diagnostics and got the same Grub Error so they are replacing the 7200 RPM SATA 1.5 Tb hdd.
The experience index in Vista was a 5.9 and in W7 it was as well with the hdd being the low number. Since I have to replace the 1.5 Tb with the new drive I was thinking of keeping it dedicated to Vista 64 and picked up a Patriot 256 Gb SSD which I plan to load W7 on when the upgrade disk gets to me. I think the SSD will vastly improve the experience index in W7 since the hdd was the low performer, anyone think this a good solution? Thanks for any input/suggestions.............
