Does uploading pictures to Facebook or Google+ result in quality loss?

I know original size and exif is preserved on the computer itself, but what about when you upload it to Facebook and google plus? If you delete your pictures from your computer after you upload them to Facebook or google plus, and then download the pictures from Facebook or Google, would the size and exif be preserved?

Facebook does have restrictions of file sizes so yes these files will be altered,

Photos you upload will be stored at Standard size. Standard size photos are best for web sharing, and have a resolution designed to look great on tablets. If your preference is to have your photos uploaded at standard size, photos will be resized to 2048 pixels on the longest edge. You can store an unlimited number of standard size photos on Google+.

Full size uploads are currently available when you upload photos on your desktop, or with Auto Backup on your Android device. Full size photos refers to the original image resolution of your photo (e.g. 4288 x 2848). Full size uploads will count against your Google Drive storage quota.

Is iPhone pictures less than 2040 on the longest? This is my main and pretty much only camera I use to take all my photos, so as long as it is less than 2040 pixels on the longest side, I guess I can pretty much have free storage for all my photos on Google +.

2040 pixels would be compressed a bit so they would not be the original size,
The standard camera on iphone 4 is what I have which the iphone 5 has an improved default camera but I don't know what Improvements were made it was not very good so I use Camera+ for .99 app,

2592x1936. 2592 at longer edge, which means that it would be 1.3 times better than the shrinked size uploaded on Google +? Not that much of a difference? Negligible loss?

Loss is Loss,
So you can adjust the settings to accommodate or live with the loss of picture quality,
Quality is in the mg size not necessarily in the pixel size,

I don't know you'll have to test using your recovery method and compare the pixel and actual file size differences you get,
I use Skydrive so I can change the upload setting,
Which the upload setting is in the Skydrive app/ from mobile so I would assume it's the same in Picasa app ?
I use upload the original file no matter what and it stays pretty much the same quality,
