Does Windows 7 support Xvid codec?

I want to install the Xvid codec, but since the last time it was updated was on June 7 2009, I don't know if it's compatible with Windows 7. Can anyone here confirm please?

Windows 7 now supports more types of media files, now including AAC in the audio department, and H.264, DivX and Xvid in video, with no third-party download needed.

What do you mean by saying "quality"? which codec should I download instead?

Are you encoding videos? Maybe I'm confused about your first question? Why do you want to download Xvid codecs for? To do what exactly? To play? VLC media player and even the built in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 can do this.

If youre looking to encode video, i would recommend x264 as it is far superior in every way.


For playback ... as already mentioned, you shouldnt need anything with 7 for XVID or x264 for that matter.

The only thing you may need is a splitter depending what conatiner is used. MP4 you should be fine as is, MKV you may need Haali spliiter.
