Don't buy Windows 8 right away with Paypal.

Windows 8 Pro is now available to purchase directly from Microsoft for $40.

However it seems you can only purchase it through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant that you have to download, which checks your system first.

I used this utility and paid through paypal. But once the transaction was finished in paypal, the application went to an error screen which doesn't let you go back or do anything except exit.

Paypal and my bank account both say that the transaction is completed, but I never recieved any email, and after calling Microsoft they have no record of my transaction. Hopefully it goes through in the next few hours, but in the meantime wait a bit as the servers are overloaded.

So i'm clear. All you need is a copy of either XP, Vista, or Windows installed on a PC and nothing else right? No other qualifications needed?

I don't know for sure. I haven't gotten that far.

But I assume that upon successful completion you will receive an email with your activation Key and possibly a link to the iso.

Also: I just discovered that you use the same setup to do the $15 upgrade for recently bought computers, only that you have to register your computer first to get a discount code.


If only Microsoft would let me use my Virtual Visa, then I wouldn't have this problem (they don't let you, but Paypal does and Microsoft lets you use paypal).

Yes MS has said it will give you a choice to Install Now or save as an ISO.

That sounds a little confusing to me. I have a paypal account, but I also have a Visa card as well. Are you saying you can't use a regular credit card? Doesn't sound right as I'm pretty sure you can use a credit card, but... :shock:

I mean I did, but I found that I'm not really financially responsible enough... :drool:

Unless you can handle it with Microsoft, PayPal can't do anything except have you file a dispute... and that can take days to weeks to resolve.

I highly suggest you gather the info that shows PayPal debited your account and send it to Microsoft so they can see you were actually charged. Once Microsoft sees that your account was actually charged, you should be able to get your product right away.

I also bought windows 8 today and paid with paypal --- ended up with an error screen and no confirmation email from microsoft just the confirmation from paypal that I paid.
looking on my store account in microsoft --- says I made no purchases . I called the support line from microsoft ---- and she did not even know what paypal is and said why do 't you buy it again with a credit card.
talked for about 1 hour --- no result ... answer we will research and call you back .
I will wait 1 day and then issue a charge backj with paypal. Something seems to ver wrong with this ... the webpage url in the charge listing of paypal does not even exist.
