Have just hauled out this WD 320GB form a Vista machine and replaced it with a spare 500GB Spinpoint and 32bit 7 for my cleaning lady (no I am not rich just can't do it myself) and I would like to get as much info off it as I can - luckily I did copy the pics before this drive didn't want to come out to play but am wanting to see if there is anything else that she needs off of it.
I can see it in Computer and the Mini Partition Tool and explore shows me there is data on the drive but to copy it for her I need to know how I can access it first.
The drive itself is about four years old and not making any weird noises - I just think her kids messed this one so much it is unworkable. I did try reinstalling Vista and even had a go at 7 but again it freezes all the time and is extremely slow.
Any ideas please anyone ?

You might be able to use one of the free recovery tools to scan the WD, find out what's on it, then save the data to another hard drive. EaseUS has a 1GB data recovery limit. More than that and you have to get their paid version. I'm not sure if Recuva has a data recovery limit.
Sorry late reply - the thing I didn't understand is how do I get data off this disk (6) in disk management and (2) in Parted Magic as when I first tried it just would not show up any data.
Now after a couple of hours break it is letting me access the data in disk management and I may probably be able to recover some of it to an external storage of some sort.
I'll probably just wipe the drive afterwards as it is obviously so messed up thats all I can do with it or bin it.
Thanks for the advice anyway marsmimar and Duzzy this drive / machine has kept me at it for over a day and in hindsight I should have just done what I have dome now and flipped in the Spinpoint and a 32bit 7 OS. Going fine now
