double click functionality on pinned taskbar icons

I was wonderign if there was a way so that, instead of a single-click action launching an application through a pinned taskbar icon, it can be double click. I notice that I try to keep apps off the pinned menu because I often accidentally click an icon that i wasn't supposed to, but a double click would eliminate that since double-clicking active applications does nothing. Is there a registry setting or custom feature I'm missing that can enable this?

Why not just make everything single click by turning on single click functionality in "folder options." You'll still get asked for confirmation for anything mildly dangerous such as "do you really want to send XYZ to the recycle bin."

no no, I mean on the taskbar. When you have an item pinned and you click it once, it launches the program. I want it so that I HAVE to double-click it to open it. I don't want to change how the items in windows explorer functions.

I know what you meant. I just have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to click twice on anything when once will do. But sorry, I don't have an answer for you.

I too keep thinking that "I want this option" when I accidentally click on the taskbar icons (which happens fairly often).

i'm accidentally clicking the wrong buttons on the taskbar all the time too. i'm used to having extra room for error on that bar so i generally click quickly and occasionally now end up opening a program i didn't want.

enabling taskbar doubleclick could give me the split second extra time to avoid wasting CPU cycles and momentary RAM consumption!

Why not get rid of pinned programs on the taskbar altogether? Use something like Stardock's ObjectDock instead. I do have the Quick Launch enabled so I can get to my most often used programs more easily, but that works on a single click also.
