I created a thread along time ago (http://www.sevenforums.com/software/113606-double-clicking-dvd-bluray-does-nothing.html) where i mention that double clicking on a DVD/BluRay drive does not autoplay the disc (or display the autoplay menu) but rather just opens the drive to view folders. I resolved this problem by editing registry as you can see from my top post. Months later now after i updated to Windows 7 Service pack 1 im back to the same friggin problem. Editing registry has not solved the problem because the values i added the last time are already there.

Can anyone please help me solve this problem?

[SOLVED]

Ok ive figured it out yet again by myself, once more a registry value had changed and this time it was in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT->DVD->Shell. The default value was blank for some reason and it should have been pointing to PlayWithPowerDVD10 so this is what the value needs to be. If anyone has a similar problem with another program like VLC for example just enter the value of PlayWithVLC.

Hope this helps anyone as no solutions i tried on the internet worked.

To go in the reverse direction, open the drive in Explorer on double-click, you have to set that registry default value to blank. It took me months to find out how to set Open as default in W7 instead of Play. I thought that was part of the tutorial How to Disable AutoPlay but it seems that tidbit is not there. There's an old post of mine before I found the same blank value you did.

I thought sure I got the answer about a blank registry value from Brink. If so it must've been part of a thread other than the tutorial. Wish there was a free online book with like 75% of registry settings documented. If you don't know the secret handshake you're hosed it seems. :)
