Hello all,
I recently ran into this issue and it's really bothersome. Whenever I try to open the downloads folder on my computer I can only scroll through it for a couple of seconds before my computer completely freezes (can't even press Ctrl+Alt+Del).
What I have noticed:
- I can still access files in the folder by using Chrome's downloads page (chrome://downloads/).
- After booting in safe mode and browsing the downloads folder there was no freezing and everything seemed to work fine.
- While opening the folder does freeze my computer, there is a split second before it freezes where I can browse the folder. Everything seems to be there. Then the file path box at the top of the explorer shows a green loading bar which only makes it about a 1/4 of the way before freezing. Side note: why does it appear to be loading something when everything appears to be in the folder? Is it checking for new files?
- I tried to do a Kaspersky virus scan on just the downloads folder and that froze the computer too.
- My computer also freezes whenever I "lock" it. Not sure if it's related but its the only other occurrence of my computer completely freezing.
I'll point out that I have 2 SSDs, one of which has my windows install and the downloads folder and I have a HDD that I usually leave unplugged.
If anyone could offer some assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
TNPNah
