Downloads in IE not working, file corrupt?

Running win 7 64, when i try to download something as simple as live essentials installer, or itunes setup, the dialogue box comes up and it won't let me open from that location, just save. Trying to save it fails until I hit retry, but the downloaded file prompts the "open with" box. This is a brand new machine and install. The only thing I really did was follow the tutorial on here to move the default locations for my files. Oh, and if I transfer the file from a zip drive, it works fine. Thanks in advance. This is in IE as well.

Which version of IE are you using, 32 or 64 bit? Try 32 bit if using 64 now.

Start , All Programs Internet Explorer (not Internet Explorer (64 bit).

Also, what happens if you download to your Desktop? Is it okay there?

Thank you. I moved the user(acct) file locations off the ssd to the hdd. Using 64 bit IE. It brings up the dialogue to download but then says "download failed". Works when you hit "retry". Also won't let you select "open" in the download box. After the file is downloaded the icon is wrong and it brings up the "open with" dialogue. But transfer file from zip(downloaded from another pc) into the download directory and the icon on that file is fine and it opens no problem. Did not try the desktop or downloading to the ssd yet.

The desktop should be on the HDD too if you moved Users folder there. Have you verified it is moved by checking on the HDD? Possibly you have two, one on each drive.
