With XP and Vista (which I had up until this morning) I was able to drag and drop images from IE into Photoshop and Word. I cant seem to do that now.

Does any one know if this is still possible?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome

Sure it is. Did you update or clean install? did you associate PS3 with the image extension?

Right-click the image, save it and then for Word 2007 choose insert and then the image. There should be a similar option for Photoshop. As for dragging try it.

zigzag- Upgraded. And the current image I'm trying to drag is a .PNG - I save my personal work as that all the time since it doesnt compress.

I never had a problem with dragging and dropping until I upgraded this morning. Whenever I have a problem dragging and dropping a file in Photoshop its usually because I'm trying to drop a file that doesnt match with the window I'm trying to drop it into (like trying to drag an indexed image into an RBG file), so I have to drag it into a blank space on the workspace and it'll drop into Photoshop- but thats not working, not even when theres nothing else open.

Frostmourne- dont want to save it. I know I cant do that, dont want too. Makes too many files that take up too much space on my computer. Have tried dragging and dropping, it doesnt work... thus my question.

I know my way around computers, been using them since I was in the 6th grade (I'm well out of college now) - I just got Windows 7 and a lot of things are different.

You should have reformatted and clean installed 7 - I'd try that. Are you using the newest version of Photoshop with the latest Windows Updates?

I did what the booklet with my upgrade kit told me to do, which was upgrade not a clean install - a clean install would have wiped my system. Thank you, but no. I have too much on my computer. I backed up my files and folders prior to the upgrade, but if I can avoid having to use a Vista made back up, I will.

And no, its not the newest Photoshop, its CS3, not CS4. I assume I have all the Windows Updates as I just installed 7 today and had it check for updates and install them while it was installing 7.

Agree, but an upgrade leaves too much debris. Try updating Photoshop. What antivirus are you using?

Cant update Photoshop, unless you'd like to give me $700. Photoshop is made by Adobe and is by no means free.

And I'm using Norton. Again, never had this problem until 7. I dragged and dropped on this exact same computer using Vista not 24 hours ago before I backed up my files. With XP it just did it, with Vista it asked for permission before it did it, with 7 it just wont.

Found out what it was. User Account Control settings were blocking it. Turned them off, I can drag and drop now.

Its best to keep UAC at its defaults.

*shrugs* I'm a graphic artist, I need to be able to drag and drop things into Photoshop. Copy and paste is as annoying as saving every file I want to use.

Vista was suppose to be seriously up tight about its security, yet it let me drag and drop once it asked for permission. 7 doesnt even ask for permission, it just blocks it.

When you drag and drop a image from your browser to word, does it show up as a link? Cause it does for me and its driving me nuts. Anyone know how to fix this?

I can unequivocally tell you that UAC does nothing to control dragging and dropping in Photoshop. I use it daily and my UAC settings are at default. This is most likely a result of doing an upgrade. Trust me, you're going to run into more issues. Upgrades are never the way to go.

This thread is over a year old. Photoshop and my computer have been running fine.
