Right click the icon and check if there's a "Pin to start Menu" Option. I've seen it a lot on my Windows 7 computer, although right now I'm on the Vista one so I can't verify right now.

Try dragging the icon to the start button and dropping it there.

Everything you want to have in your Start Menu should be placed in the folder I told you. It's no difference if it is a folder, a program or a shortcut. Just copy or move the Works icon to that folder and it's back where you want it.
