Maybe I'm still not getting it but it sounds to me like you want the video to be the default background for your desk top and you want to do that by running some kind of batch file that's part of the startup.

Either way, I'm not qualified to provide an answer.

I was hoping one of the other persons in the forum would jump in.

Sorry about that.

It was such a possibility.

There are a few other threads in this forum concerning DreamScene in which people are using background videos but I don't see where anyone identified how to permanently make the video background.

It's unusual for other helpers in this forum to not jump in but, it's apparent that they won't.

Hi. I know just the tool for you. :) This will enable the dreamscene feature from vista in windows 7 home basic or higher.
Keep in mind that the videos need to be in the .wmv file format, wich you can achive with converters and the tool HAS TO BE RUN AS AN ADMINISTATOR. In the zip file i encluded some sample video wallpapers. To set a video as your wallpaper, simply right click it and press "set as desktop background"
Here is the hyperlink for the .zip flie :https://mega.nz/file/XtYVxCBQ#kccjyt85l1LU41WwjKF_eKSq_kkMrazF1NWfM8AKS2A.
Enjoy :)
Edit:If you want a cmd solution, then simply launch the tool from an admin command prompt.

uhhhh...doesnt this just enable dreamscene like any other enabler tool? what i need is a cmd solution to actually enable specific videos per cmd NOT having to right click a videofile and enabling it as background but to actually set a certain videofile as dreamscene per cmd , hope this is better understood, thought ive explained this well

uhhh..lols? thats NOT helping , someone have an actual script that takes care of my issue itd be appreciated alot, where its like example> set dreamscene file as dreamscene on this month next month a different dreamscene and so on depending on month a certain dreamscene videofile out of a folder called for example Spring which has multiple videofiles ...Summer the same and so on and gets set by random, the idea being having seasonal random backgrounds, including the watch function to always make sure dreamscene isnt paused and that its running and if not to reenable said videofile as dreamscene p.s the major issue being me needing the cmd string so i can set a watcher to make sure dreamscene is always enabled and if not to reenable a certain videofile as dreamscene

Well, I've tried some command line stuff using a batch file that changed the Dream Scene registry value, but I wasn't successful at changing the background. There's way too many files and what not that need to be changed it seems. One path is in the AppData folder that seems to create a temp JPG image of the video file.

The only way I know that would work is to use a macro to set the desktop video via right click. When I want to create macros I use a program called Macro Recorder. Then that can be saved as an .EXE and invoked via the Task Scheduler or other means. Other than Macro Recorder there is AutoHotkey, but there's a learning curve. There are programs that can generate AutoHotkey macros, but I've had limited success with those.

damn ... i hope someone manages a solution , macro ...yeah but itd be nice if it could be done per invisible batch instead , macros arent smart they cant discern between seasons etc nor realize when dreamscene is running or not

So I just found out that my code does work, but only to change the video background per boot cycle. I created a method to change the desktop video background using a random video per boot cycle. If you would like to do this let me know. It's the only way I know how to do what you want.

But first, I need to verify you have the path I use from the registry which I'm sure exists, but I need to verify. To do that simply download this batch file and double click it. If it says yes then the registry path exists. If no then no. Let me know what it says.

sez yes we golden lols, anyhow i hope this random thing selects on a month basis , so i can either set date folders as such> 2020.01 2020.02 and so on or Janurary February and so on what is a shame is that you havent managed to find out yet how to have dreamscene constantly be checked if its running and if not aka no videobackground playing then to reselect a video from said monthly folder ...would be real special if youd find a solution for sure my man, maybe have the batch check if dreamscene is running , im sure there gotta be a value somewhere , since you can pause dreamscenes per desktop right click and selecting pause dreamscene

This method won't do that exactly, but can be done in a way you want which is a little involved. You'd have to use the Windows Task Scheduler to fire off a batch file per month and each batch file would need to be different per month to reflect all of the videos you'd like to display at random. It's really not hard and can do exactly what you want, it's just a little hacky.

If you want to go on with this let me know and I'll take the time to write up all the instructions and maybe a video. I have my ready made batch file here. How may videos do you have? Is it just ten per month or what? That will dictate how each batch file per month is created.

There is a free easy to use software that will generate basic programs, but I have yet to learn it. If I knew how to code with it then I could just create a basic program where you'd just point and click to the video images to generate each batch file. But I'm in no way shape or form ready to learn how to use that program so we'll have to hand edit batch files with path names. Again, it's not hard at all and I can describe the process.

So like ten random videos in January and ten random videos in February, etc? This can be done, but will only randomize per boot. So each start of the computer will give you a different random video. But there may be a time where the random number comes out to be the same as the last. So you want at least seven to ten or more different videos per month to increase random picks.

All of your videos are in WMV format, correct?
