Solved drive label stuck as "OS Install" when no label is assigned

Hello, not sure if this is the correct area to ask, but I've noticed that my E drive's label is stuck as "OS Install" when there is no label assigned. I thought at first there was a label assigned to it and followed renaming labels option 3 on the forums (as a DVD drive was assigned to the letter). But when I assigned a USB drive to the E drive after switching out the dvd drive's letter, I noticed that it keeps the "OS Install" as default label instead of the normal "removable disk" when no label is assigned. This held true with the internal hard drive's partition as well. However when I assigned a drive label such as "CRUZER", it would change to the assigned label. As I like to have my E drive be the dvd drive, I don't want to see this weird label on it when I didn't assign it. If anyone knows a solution or can help me to try to find one, it would be great! I've attached pictures to explain better

I don't see the point. That doesn't show the disk drive label since its a nonlabeled dvd drive.

Your D/M looks normal.

Just exactly what are you trying to see that you don't see?

I'm really not sure what you are trying to do or trying to see when you do something. I'm now sure what that something is.

if you look at the first picture I uploaded looking at the dvd drive on the explorer, it says "DVD RW drive (E:) OS Install". As I have never put in a label for the dvd drive, it should just say "DVD RW drive (E:)." when I used disk management to change the E drive with a USB disk, when the usb is not labeled, it still says "OS Install" when it should be "Removable Disk." Only when I give the drive in the E disk position a label, will "OS Install" disappear. It seems to me that the E drive position has changed its default non label to "OS Install" and I want to reset it back to normal.

Okay I think I understand what you want.
You want something like this. Is that correct?

I don't have a Rename option for my DVD drive. Maybe making the DVD drive letter (D) would bring it back to normal. If you change the DVD drive letter make sure you reboot.

yeah that's what I want, but the problem isn't with the dvd drive, but rather with the drive letter (E). DVD drives normally do not have the option to rename. also when I changed the drive letter of my second partition to E, the same problem occurred when no label was placed for the partition. same being true when I placed a USB stick as E drive as shown in the picture. It probably means that the E drive's default labeling scheme has a problem, and I'd like to fix that.

Did you try using a different partition letter for you data drive and use the (D) for your DVD player?

If you want to change the Drive Name not the Drive letter you do that from here with a right tick on the drive.

that tutorial was the first thing i found before posting. switching out partition letters don't really change the original problem since whatever is on partition E and has no assigned label defaults to "OS Install" and not the normal label for a non labeled internal drive, dvd drive or removable storage.

for example, bear, for your C Drive, you have it labeled "Windows 7." if you decide to rename it and leave it blank, it will switch to the default label "Local Disk." The problem is that my E drive (for whatever type of media I choose E to be disk, cd or USB) if i say had my "Data" labeled drive placed there, will have "Data" as its label when I assign it, but if I rename and choose to keep it blank, instead of "Local Disk", it will show "OS Install"

Did you see
"Option Three" in the tutorial for renaming removable drives (like CD/DVD drive) in the Registry? I'm thinking from your response above that you may have stopped reading too early. This step 3 does not involve the partition or drive letters. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/66118-drive-rename.html

I've tried option three before posting the thread, and I retried just now. Even when I game it a label, it would not change to the label I gave.

I tried GokAy's suggestion of searching the registry and found "OS Install" under HKEY-USERS\S-15-21-2303449680-1231917692-1707235187-1000\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\E\DefaultLabel
Deleting that value seems to have fixed it. Location seems quite similar to the registry location that you're told to navigate in option 3 of
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/66118-drive-rename.html
Do you guys know what could have caused that registry to be changed like that? I want to know for future reference.
I haven't done any registry hacks before and the only one that I use to clean registry is CCleaner.

No idea what could have changed it, an application you used perhaps. Don't worry about it until it happens again.

I have never known Ccleaner to cause registry problems but one never knows when it comes to the registry.

Do you have any programs from IOBit installed now or ever?
