Solved Drive partition no longer has delete option available - it WAS there

The reason you can't extend C is because D is not fully deleted first. You must not only delete the Logical partition, but then you must rightlick to Delete the Logical volume which is its container.

Then you will be able to Extend C into the space: Partition or Volume - Extend

If this fails, use free Partition Wizard which treats Unallocated (Primary) and Free Space (Logical) the same for purposes of Resizing. You'l be able to resize C into the deleted D space without further problem.

I did manage to get to the second "delete" option. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly what message I got at that point but it freaked me out enough to not proceed any further. All I recall was that it indicated I would not have access to the space if I proceeded. Now ... I could have mis-read that completely ??? Are you able to provide any more info as to what message appears at selecting the Logical Volume delete ?

I have to have my laptop in working order for the next week at least, so I will have to limp along with 1GB left on the C: drive partition until I can tackle this issue again. I'll also get a copy of Partition Wiz in the meantime (everyone seems to like it).

There's no need to use install or burn PW CD if you can delete D Volume in Disk Mgmt, then Extend C - which should take less than a minute total.

Many thanks to all who posted - it was an interesting discussion.

I thought I would let you know what eventually happened :
In the discussions someone (I'm sorry but I forget who) suggested that the size of the C: drive was unusually large. When I had some more time to spend on the problem I checked all the folder sizes on the C: drive and eventually found what had chewed up approx 35GB of disk space.

Last year I had an issue with an internet security application installation and in trying to diagnose the issue with the support techs I was instructed to enable debug. I then had issues with disabling debug and unfortunately forgot about it as I had some unexpected major life issues at the same time. Result : eight months later = 35GB of debug files. In the end I had to de-install the software and re-install after the application still would not disable debug.
