Heya

So here is the story.

I have 5 pcs. In past they had the same user name/login/password. When I shared drive all pcs could access it edit etc etc.

But now I have 5 pcs with different usernames/pws/details. Now I can still access the shared HDD but I can only read, No write, edit, delete etc etc.

I remember that before I made my accounts uniform I had them different as well and in order to get it to work I had to add some guest or other user permissions for full control etc etc. I cant seem to remember it.

Would any1 be so kind and help me out with it?

Regards

Dariusz

Right-click on C partition [or only on the portions you want to share], Sharing, Advance Sharing, limit number of users, Permissions - check the boxes, apply, apply, ok your way out of there; do this on all five computers. Test via hard-wire internet first; I found wireless to be a little more fickle than my hard-wire.

Hey

Thanks for your info.

Yeah thats how I do it. In permission tab there is group "Everyone" it has full control enabled. I even have added every other group I could find over there and it still did not allow me to create folder from my laptop. I'm doing it over Wifi now yes. Ill try it later over lan but I still need Wifi working.

I'm trying to scratch my memory I think before I went to HDD/Properties/Sharing - add there and then Properties/Security add stuff there.

But I remember that last time I had to get it to work I spend like 4 days working with it. Its another nightmare again wrrr.

Set up a Homegroup then add the other PCs to it. Then on the host PC you can set permissions per folder.

I remember trying that option back around 4 years a go. It was hard and did not work. I'll try it as a last resort.

The wireless should work, I have a PC in a different part of the house connected to the Homegroup over WiFi. Is the laptop seeing the homegroup?

Not using Homegroup. Still only maped HDD as X in network locations and accessing it as any folder on disk. Not sure why laptop cant create files wirelessly. I only know that it will cause a lot of issues. Lots of the time I use amazon servers to map my home hdd and move/create files. Its going to be a massive headache in future to get this rig working again sigh. Damn you windows !

I also have troubles with WIFI; that's why I suggested you get it all working via hard-wire first. If/when you get hard-wire 5 PCs sharing like you want them to, then & only then, switch over to WIFI. Your call :)
The above is what worked for me involving Windows 7 Pro amongst 3 computers.

Addendum: I hope I didn't come across as "nagging," my home wifi sometimes say goodBye to sharing computer folders and files; while my home hard-wire seldom does likewise.
