Nice Christmas present, but at least the computer is working!:)

Anyway, hoping your holiday has been good, I'd like advice on what may have been the cause of the crash that happened at start-up the other day.

I have attached a zip file, hopefully with nothing missing. With Christmas intervening more detailed comments would be hazy.

From that can you pin point the cause?

Rt64win7.sys is related to your Realtek network adapter, and the driver is rather outdated, therefore it is recommend you update this driver.

Well it took a while to find a driver. Realtek seem to think it OK to direct one to a site where one has to register and pay for updated drivers. :( But new driver installed.

Slightly OT but the exercise produced some curiosities.

I have SlimDrivers installed. That said all my drivers were UTD. I found the needed driver in DriverMax
I then looked at what other were shown as out dated according to D'Max and compared the recommendations with the details in Device Manager.

Results (so far)

Intel ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller: Device Manager 1/9/12 11.6.0.1030; D'Max 10/9/12 9.1.9.1001

Keyboard Device: Device Manager 21/6/2006 6.1.7601.17514; D'Max 19/5/2009 1.0.1.0

The first has both drivers dated fairly similarly but D'Max version # is lower, whilst the second example has an apparently much older driver, but with a higher version #.

All is concerning as D'Max is listing more incl System items ( see att). Do I take D'Max at face value and install their suggestions, or not? Thoughts please! :)

I wouldn't use a third-party program like DriverMax, they tend to cause problems and are not needed, best method for looking and updating drivers is through the automatic driver installation and checker programs provided by the driver manufacturer on their website, or checking for newer drivers and updating the drivers yourself manually.

Any other BSODs?

Thanks for the advice; I'll take note. So far no more BSODs. However have not been at desk for much of 27/28th..

Only occasional odd glitch within 15 minutes of morning start is mouse pointer sticking; hard reset only way to clear.
