Solved Driver Keeps Appearing in Windows Updates

Hi guys,

The Canon MX410 drivers keep on appearing even after successful install.

Here are my optional updates before installation:

Windows notifies of successful install:

However, when I check for updates again after...

...and it is back. Several attempts led to same results.

I also tried downloading the drivers from the official Canon PIXMA MX410 page and installing it (in hopes of "overriding" the Windows Updates), to which it notified as well of a successful install.

But upon running Windows Updates, the driver download is still there. Any suggestions?

Workaround: If the printer works, hide the update, check for updates

Just noticed that the update pertains to the FAX portion of your AIO printer and that the Canon site offers thier driver for Win8 as well as Win7 (same driver).

This is probaly just a lag time between Canon and MS - where MS has not WHQL'd the fax driver from Canon.

Oh, also noticed that you have the Bing (and probably Silverlight) WU offers. If you don't use them, hide those updates too (5 Bing, 5 Silverlights are hidden on my box)

Hide an update - Right click -> hide

The printer is currently in working condition, though it is not set up for FAX. I have hidden the driver and checked for updates, to which WU did not offer it anymore (post #2).

I'm fine with WU automatically downloading driver updates, I was just concerned with the persistent driver when it should have installed successfully. But thanks for the tutorial, I learned again.

This is probably the answer I'm looking for. Nice observation and deduction, Slartybart. I will keep the FAX driver update hidden (as the printer is just working fine) along with other unwanted updates. Thank you for the advice.
