Driver removal for a motherboard swap?

Hello forum,

I am planning to switch out my motherboard for a different chipset (85X to 990FX) and would like to perform the change by using sysprep. However It was brought to my attention that while sysprep does install default drivers upon system restart, it does not remove the drivers previously installed with the old motherboard and it may cause conflicts once the new motherboard is installed.

Since I cannot lose my present system configuration or afford a clean install right now due time limitation, I need to find a way to avoid as many problems with sysprep.

So I come to the question, is there a way to remove all drivers before performing sysprep?
Have any of you done a similar motherboard swap, IE changing chipsets?

Your going to have to re-install windows. Back up your stuff and proceed.

YES -- I have. I decided to "upgrade" an older Win7 PC when I started having driver problems.

Not wanting to reinstall Win7 from scratch, including all the apps and settings, I hunted around for an alternative -- and found it -- Macrium Reflect Redeploy.

This is a version of the Macrium Reflect image/restore app that is designed to allow you to restore to "different hardware" from where you made the image backup -- in essence, to migrate from one PC to another. It's not the free version -- you have to buy it.

And, yes, this does work -- I used it. And while I KNOW that a fresh-install is preferred, this is a working alternative.

You can't just remove the chipset driver right before you swap out motherboards?

I recall many a Windows wipe and drop with having to add the chipset drivers after the fact, and Windows functions OK without it, needs to, you have to get to that point.

Probably will work even if you don't remove it.

I would have hoped going from AMD chipset to another AMD chipset would have been hassle free with Catalyst, but maybe dreaming? maybe not?
