Hiya 7 Forums,

Recently my computer has been getting the driver power state failure bsod at random. It happens at random occurrences, from playing video games to simply browsing the internet. I've already system restored my computer and the error keeps coming back.

Upon starting the computer, this is the information I can gather.

Update to the latest drivers for your graphic card. Follow the method below:

  1. Download and install Driver Sweeper:
    |MG| Driver Fusion (Driver Sweeper) 1.2.0 Download
  2. Download the auto-detect tool for AMD.
    AMD Driver Autodetect
  3. Boot into Safe Mode from Advanced Boot Options:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html
  4. Type in Driver Fusion in Search
  5. Remove all drivers
  6. Boot normally now, and install the latest drivers from the
    auto-detect program you downloaded.

If you prefer downloading the drivers manually from the manufacturers website or from a source like filehippo, avoid the CCC - Catalyst Control Center part during installation. It does cause troubles.

After installation of the newest drivers observe for more BSoDs.

It managed to not blue screen until yesterday. I uninstalled all the drivers and I started to install that back one at a time to isolate the incident and see what driver is causing the problem.

It turns out it's the Intel display driver that I downloaded from here;

Model Content Page

The driver is rather important though, especially for a gaming computer.

Thanks for any help you can give me

I used the automatic driver finder tool and it said:

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

When attempting to play any game with solely the nvidia driver it doesn't have the capability to play any game. The nvidia driver might only be for 3d gaming, of which I still would require the intel graphics to play with.

Not at all. Any display driver is for any game.

So do you change Monitor's connection every time, to use intel driver and nvidia driver?

Remove the startup items.

If you connect your monitor to the nVidia Card, it will use nvidia driver. And, if you connect the monitor to motherboard's output, it will use the intel display driver. only by that way you can shift your drivers not otherwise.

So please tell us in detail, how do you do it on your Qosmio X775 laptop?

I followed all of your instructions however I'm not certain what you're asking.

What I mean to say was that when solely the nvidia driver was installed the video games I was attempting to play (specifically planet side 2) would not permit me to do so because my graphics card was not sufficient. However when I reinstalled the driver for the intel display driver the crashes began to occur again.

What exactly are you asking arc?
And sorry if I'm not being as helpful as possible. Technology seems to be the bane of my existence.

Muchas gracias!

Your System Specs say you are running Win7, don't use the Windows 8 beta driver, it's not for Win7.
Use this one:
Intel Display Driver(v1.0; 07-04-2011; 167.98M)

Most laptops with integrated and discrete graphics have settings that might disable one of the graphics systems.
What power setting are you using?
A power setting to conserve battery life may disable your nVidia graphics.
Check your manual.

I attempt to install the prior driver version but when I run the executable file the setup won't even open (and I've redownloaded it three times). I also run my computer on high performance so I don't believe that would cause any difficulties.

Usually when installing a driver and it discovers a newer version already installed it won't install the older version.

Go to Device Manager, under Display adapters, right click the Intel device, choose Properties, Drivers tab, click the uninstall button.
Then re-boot, Windows will install a default driver, you should be able to install the correct driver.

You should be running the Power setting on Balanced, this will allow your CPU to idle when not stressing the system and run on full power when needed.
This will help to keep the CPU from overheating and reduce battery drain when on the battery.
This may have some effect on the Intel graphics, depends on the sub settings.

Check you BIOS for Graphics Card settings, post the options here on your next post.
Looking for the options for the two graphics devices.
