Solved DriverMax

Drivers, for me, are 'technical ground'. So some advice required please.

First question is, why update a driver which is not (noticeably) giving problems?
Next, how safe is it to do 'recommended' updates?

I just ran DriverMax on my system. Here are the results...

Hi Irene.. If your drivers are not having a problem, there is no rule that you have to update them.. It is perfectly safe to install "recommended" updates. As far as programs like DriverMax, I avoid them.... if I need to update a driver I always go to the manufacturers website and get the drivers from there...

Thank you, Tews, for your prompt reply.

I only used DriverMax because I know no better! - I presumed that the updates would be from the manufacturer.
To be honest, I wouldn't know if or when a driver needs updating. I think I will leave well alone.

Hi Irene , I agree with Tews , if the PC is fine and you are not having problems leave it as it is , Too many people subscribe to " a new update is out I gotta have it " brigade , some of the drivers I'm using are way out of date , my PC works fine for me so why spoil it !! as Tews states use the manf for updates not the driver finder progs

Just a quick personal story. I run independent driver scans just to see what they say. I never download from them. I recently ran 3 such scans and they all told me my Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller driver was outdated. They each offered to install the latest version. I visited the Realtek site but couldn't find this updated driver listed. In fact, the latest driver listed was the one actually installed on my machine. Sent an email to Realtek and they said the driver scan sites were listing a driver for the FE (not GBE) Family Controller.

So I agree with pebbly and Tews. If it ain't broke...
