Did you try to connect the printer to the computer, and then turn the printer on? Windows 7 (update) should download the printer driver and install the printer drivers.

If you have manually installed printer drivers, remove them first.

Then try the update method.

Please let us know what you tried, and if you succeeded.

HP PSC 1210 Toolkit

My XP installation just got wiped out completely by a virus attack. The IT guy said I should upgrade to Win7, so, with much trepidation, I did so. I've now got most of the software re-installed, and it's worked pretty well so far, but I've run into a snag that's bugging me.

The reliable HP PSC 1210 I've been using for years installed fine from the Win7 and (fortunately) I haven't had any of the printing registry problems reported elsewhere, but I installed a new print cartridge and need to run a good test page print (and maybe head cleaning) before printing some more CD labels. The HP Toolkit, which prints several different helpful test pages as it progresses through a succession of head cleaning exercises isn't accessible from the Win7 interface, like it was in XP. I just checked on a nearly useless Vista laptop I'd replaced with a retrofit XP on my newer laptop, and it appears that the Toolkit isn't available in Vista either.

The HP support website refers to a document that specifically says that the head cleaning and alignment functions are not available for this printer in Win7! How can they take away functionality that formerly worked fine?? Can't they (or MS, ha ha!) come up with an add-on driver that will provide this minimal functionality that the new OS has destroyed???

I've not been able to find any reference to this specific problem via Google search. Any suggestions??

Aloha from Tom in Kona!
