I've posted this on another thread but adding it here just in case others can help as well.

I just purchase a new hard drive, and am wanting to put Win 7 64 bit on it. I have a HP Pavilion dv6700 series laptop, with the product name dv6833us.

So as you see, I have new hard drive on an old computer that isn't 64 bit by default. If anyone could help me out, and help provide the drivers I will need in order for my Win 7 64 bit to function properly I would greatly appreciate it.

Does that mean I won't have to install video/sound or other components for the computer?

You'll have to try it to actually find out. Windows generally does a pretty good job.

You should be prepared to have to configure some things---either in the BIOS or within Windows. Most importantly, you will need a working Internet connection in case you have to go online to HP, Intel, or elsewhere to get driver updates if and as needed.

Right, I have purchase recovery disk in the past, but it was for Vista 32 bit, not sure if they'll over Win 7 64 bit.

I know I'll have to find out, it's just that I wanted to get a heads up before I go ahead and load Win 7 onto the new hard drive. I didn't want to have to scramble for drivers, I wanted to be prepared and just move on quickly.

I can't run the advisor, the laptop I am doing this on is currently not working.

Which one do I select to download though? The Vista 64, or just normal Vista, since neither Win 7 is an option.

It should work with it, it's basically the same thing, just a lil faster RPM. From 5400 to 7200. Okay, I'll start looking for the 64 bit drivers, thanks theog.

Well you might have a hard time finding drivers for you laptop then, alot of time vista64 drivers will work but sometimes they wont. You may have to run some in compatibility mode.

Plus side is it dosent work now so .... slap the hdd in there and install 7, then we will know what works and what dosent and can go from there..

Here are 3 more link you should check out....HP Main page for your laptop. (there is a recall on some batteries for that model). HP Notebook PCs being upgraded from Windows Vista or Windows XP to Windows 7. Then here Finding Software and Drivers After Changing the Operating System to Windows 7. .. Good luck

If you were trying to downgrade to XP then I would be concerned with trying to find drivers for XP for newer hardware. In my experience, Win 7 does an excellent job of installing drivers. I've installed Win 7 on netbooks, laptops and desktops that were XP or older vintage that the mfr didn't provide drivers newer than XP for. When the Win 7 install was run on each machine, the machine was bootable and usable from the getgo, only minor driver tweaking was needed.

My advice would be not to worry about the drivers and just run the install.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
So I finally installed Win 7, luckly I didn't have to hunt down any drivers so far. Windows detected around 80+ updates and was over in matters of minutes. Thanks everyone who helped me out to prepare for the worse that never came. Hopefully no issues will come in the future with drivers or updates.

Thanks, I just like to be prepared for things you know. I didn't want to have to scramble for drivers last min and it take longer to finally have a computer. Is it normal for things to flicker now and then?
