Dual boot and MBR problem

Hi all, dudes, i'm new.

First of all, sorry for my english, i hope that i will be quite understandable, and sorry for my inexperience too.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 with windows 7 installed. I tried to create a dual boot with Ubuntu 10.04 and another partition (ntfs) only for files.

The dual boot (grub2) seems to run well 'till i use Win7. After i open windows 7 it's impossible to start the PC without using a desktop CD. Grub disappears and i see only this message:

"no module name found
aborted. press any key to exit."

After pressed any key, it starts again and show the same, in loop.


seems that windows delete grub every time it starts... is this possible?

How did you do the Ubuntu install? How did you create the NTFS partition?

A screen shot of Disk Management from Windows 7 might help determine what is wrong.

hi Ztruker, thx for answer.

i had 3 partitions:
-sda1 dell utilities
-sda2 win 7 (loader)
-sda3

Using Gparted (from live Cd of ubuntu) i deleted sda1 and shortened sda3.
Then i created a ntfs partition (primary) and an extended partition (primary, sda4) in wich i put 2 logic partitions (sda5 & sda6) for linux (one for the OS and one for swap).
Then i installed Linux in sda5.

(Shame on me, sorry for my english... )

It seems to run well, i can start and restart from linux, and the dual boot is OK. But when i use windows... you know.

Try this: Repair your bootmanager with Win 7 repair disk(Google how to make on or it is covered here), or get rid of your Ubuntu installation and just partition for Win 7 and storage. Then install Ubuntu using Wubi which installs Ubuntu as a Windows Program. You can uninstall it just like any program installed inside Windows. You will have the option to boot to Ubuntu or Windows 7 every time you boot but does not change system files. Wubi - Ubuntu Installer for Windows

repairing the bootmanager, i guess, would cancel grub. Or not?

I don't like very much Wubi, btw, i want a real linux Os ; )
