Solved dual boot issue

Hi

I have an existing win 7 install and have attempted to install win 10 on a separate physical disk.
I was hoping to dual boot both os's but I do not receive the option.
Instead the system takes me to win 10 by default.
I'm assuming the boot loader has been changed.
Any ideas how I can get back into win 7 once more?

This is taken from within win 10 so the drive letter assignments will be a tad off

Run msconfig and look at the boot tab.
Do you have Windows 7 and Windows 10 listed ?
What is your timeout setting ?

Here's an example of the msconfig boot tab.
I'm running 8.1 right now, but 7 and 10 are pretty much the same.

It might be Win 10 fast startup that is causing the problem.

Go to Control Panel > Power Options
Click on Choose what the power buttons do
Make sure Turn on fast startup is uchecked

I have surprised myself and managed to resolve the issue.
But thanks to you DavidE as your suggestion around disk mgmt got me thinking about the master boot record.
I had to boot up with a command prompt and use bootrec /rebuildbcd. This searches for all win installations and displays the ones not listed in the boot config store and gives you the option of adding them.
On boot up I now get asked which version I want.

That's great !

Make sure you do turn off fast startup in Win 10, that can cause problems for Win 7.

A better way would have been to unplug all other drives when you installed 10, then just used the boot menu to boot into 10 when you wanted to.

That way your drives would have been independent of each other, should you want to stop using Windows 7, God forbid
