Hi,

I need an help to make a dual boot with Win XP and Win7.

Actualy I have installed Windows XP in RAID 0 (2 disks WD of 500GB).
Now I decide to add a SSD disk with Windows 7 (Corsair GT 120GB).
On Win XP I have many data, programs, certificates, etc. that I need, some programs work only on Win XP. For newer data, jobs, etc. I also need Win 7.

How can I make this installation that work?
Any help to make this without losing any data?
Thanks.

Will your motherboard allow you to run simultaneous RAID0 with an SSD set to AHCI?

If so I'd plug in the SSD to Clean Install Windows 7.

This will configure a Dual Boot menu placing the boot files for both OS's on XP. So in the future if you want to remove XP or the unnecessary RAID goes down you'll have to mark Win7 Active to repair it by running three separate Startup Repairs.

If you'd like to keep the two OS's independent booted via the BIOS, unplug the RAID first to install only with the SSD plugged in. Afterwards set the SSD to boot first, boot RAID using one-time BIOS boot Menu key. However I would be concerned about the RAID remaining intact using this method.

Remember that RAID0 confers no advantage and isn't even redundance since you'd lose everything if you lose one HD.

Thank you for your replay.

Sorry. I write wrong. I not have RAID0. Windows XP was installed on RAID1 and I need to ad another SSD disk for installing Windows 7 in dual boot.
This change something?

You'll need to read your Manual on it's mobo Support Downloads webpage to see how adding an separate SSD in addition to a RAID1 is best achieved.

I add SSD disk without any problem, then install windows 7 without problem. Now I have a dual boot Win XP and Win 7. Boot drive is Win XP drive.
