Hi,

I tried installing windows xp on my dell laptop running windows 7.The installation started but soon i got the error message
"setup is stopping to prevent any damage to your computer.check your hard drive to make sure its configured properly.run sfc on your hard drive etc etc

STOP:0x00000007(0XF78D2524,0X000000034)"

Is it coz i have to install drivers for my SATA hard drive so xp can recognise it or is problem something different???

btw my windows 7 is running normal without any problems and i am trying to install xp in another partition on my internal HDD.

thanks in advance

1. On start up press F2 OR DEL to enter BIOS.
2. Expand the "Hard Drives" section.
3. Go to "SATA Operation"
4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA".
Your system's BIOS might be slightly different .

Hello dreamer!

You are on the right track concerning drivers.

There are 2 options, first; leave AHCI set for Windows 7 and set it to IDE for the install of XP, then you would have to set AHCI/IDE in the BIOS every time you wanted to start one or the other, a major PITA in the long run, take my word for it.

Second, leave it set as AHCI and slip the XP SATA drivers into the XP installation media to get XP to install successfully, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

You can try this: Solved Switch AHCI TO IDE (Tutorial HowTo) !!! - Vista Forums

First set a System Restore point, and for extra peace of mind I would save a Win7 backup image externally: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html

If it fails, System Restore and try it over again to make sure you did it correctly (check your work closely).

If it fails twice, System Restore and consider running XP virtually using Virtual Box, XP Mode (for Ultimate), Virtual Player, etc.

I am seriously looking at virtual box solution for my win XP needs

thanks all again for your valuable replies

But I have to change the settings in Bois when I go from Win7 to Win XP and also the other way. Anyone that have any ideas how to get this fixed?
