Solved Dual boot XP/Win7 will not dual boot

Already done, and I was into XP earlier tonight. Now I just have to find the right sound driver for my MSI motherboard and I'm set. But that's a topic for a different thread.

Thank you all for the help. What great tools and tutorials!

Thank you. I'll look at that this morning. I can' even think of eliminating XP until I have sound.

Type Troubleshoot in Start Search box, run the Audio playback troubleshooter to see what it finds.

In Device Manager what is listed under Audio drivers? Are there any other missing drivers with a ! mark next to them?

Import any missing drivers from the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model. Did you already install the Audio Driver from there?

This is all explained in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 along with many other tips and tools that will help you get and keep a perfect install.

I have a Creative Soundblaster Live! CT4780 card which I removed this morning. I had installed it when my sound stopped working in XP. Well, ya know what? The XP problem must have been a driver problem, because the Realtek is working find in Windows 7. In the sound forum on SevenForums, I found updated (modified) drivers, so I'll install those in my next tweaking session. The Creative card does give better sound, more options.

So, it looks like I'm good to go. Thanks again.
