Looking for a solution to the following situation.

I have XP install on my 150gb IDE Raptor drive. I then proceeded to install Win 7 Home Premium on a different drive a 400gb SATA drive. Essentially I have created a dual boot.

If I power the box on and do nothing it goes happily into Win 7. If I want I can choose to go to an earlier version of windows (XP).

What I would like to do is remove the Raptor drive and use it in a new system I plan to build. If i disconnect this drive the BIOS post the following: No IDE Master HDD detected.

I want this current dual boot system to only boot Win 7 from the 400gb drive.
Is this possible to accomplish after describing my current setup.

How would on go about making this happen? What I don't want to have happen is braking Win7 and having to reinstall it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Back up your files and a Win7 system image externally.

In Disk Management mark Win7 active. Power down.

Unplug XP and any data drives. Set Win7 to be first HD to boot in BIOS, after DVD.

Now boot into Win7 DVD Repair console, click through to Recovery Tools and run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboot as it will attempt to repair and then rewrite the MBR to Win7.
