You need to use ECDedit to remove the item from loader menu. Tutorial for using BCDedit here in the tutorial section

Try checking if you have a Windows 7 listed in the Boot.ini using "bootcfg". Instrucitons here: How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP
If it is there you can delete it using these instructions.
Be sure to make backups, this can mess up your boot options if not done right.

get EasyBCD or VistaBootPro. Either of those run just fine in XP.

Then you can reinstall the legacy bootloader (ntldr) on your system partition and it will boot up XP and you will not have a menu dealing with 7 anymore..

I highly suggest that you not do anything if you don't know what you're doing. Because as it stands, it seems like you can at least use your system. If you mess up, computer will be hosed.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
hi i had dual boot with windows 7 and xp.

I wiped off 7 and made partition c back to full but how do i get the windows 7 off ?
when i start it still says windows 7 or previous version
If you wiped off 7, it should be gone now.
I believe your problem can be solved this way:
1. Do not touch or edit C:\boot.ini !!!

2. Do not run 'bootcfg' !!!

The solution should be to boot from your Windows 7 install DVD.
This will get 'Windows 7-code' into the box, probably to the "Install Windows 7" screen...

Now you need to get to a "command prompt", which in Windows 7,
is to hit "Shift F10" which brings up an 'Admin Cmd prompt'. (the 'DOS-box')

(Now you have to find out the 'letter' of your DVD, and HDD.)
type: diskpart
then: list volume -- Note the letters of DVD (D:?) and boot HDD (C:?)
type: EXIT to get out of 'diskpart' and back to the cmd prompt.

type: D: (D:? for your DVD letter)

type: CD boot
type: bootsect /nt52 C: /mbr (C:? for your boot HDD)...
--- He should say "Success" ---

type: EXIT to get out of 'Command Prompt' and back to Windows 7 Setup.

That ought to do it. Cancel out of Setup, and reboot.
You should now be back to your XP Home installation.

Do they always not answer ?

Even an "FU" seems acceptable, every now and then....

FU. Feeling unappreciated? ;-)

Maybe he touched boot.ini

I am going to play with USB boot this weekend.
