Hey guys I'm dual booting W7 and Ubuntu 14.10 I've been using Ubuntu for my banking and W7 for steam geams but I have a paid ver of 2015 Mccafee plus through my bank for 22 dollars for 2 yrs and I have the free ver malware bytes and use trustee rapport could use windows for what I use Ubuntu for or stick with Ubuntu for banking. Its just that later I want to go with only one partition OS but its the security thing.
Am I safe with only windows with all this on it or stick with linux for security and I'm hoping windows steam games will come soon then also

Thanks guys

Do you want to re-type that, and use some punctuation? I have no idea what you are actually asking.

You can do your banking from either, you`re just going to a website.

Don`t store the username and passwords if you`re worried.

If you like your dual boot, leave it that way, no reason to choose one over the other :)

Hi,
Firstly I would recommend dumping Mcafee pronto but do it properly and thoroughly because it often acts like a virus,
How to uninstall or re-install supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool
Replace it with free Avast or Panda I personally use free MSE Microsoft security essentials but either way any of those are better than Mcafee,

Buy mbam lifetime license while they still are available
This is the new key to internet protection and it's a one time payment ;)
Amazon.com: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (LIFETIME, OEM License, Immediate Code Issued, No CD) [Online Code]: Software

Linux is not as easy to get infected but it is easy to transfer an infection from Linux to windows very easily
You could be infected in Linux and not even know it
Installing Linux on another partition or even along side windows isn't a great thing to do because windows has no clue of it being there,
Linux on the other hand knows about windows = that's the sticky part,
I personally put Linux on it's own ssd to keep them completely separate.
Some people use VMPlayer for Linux.

Hi,
I believe you'd be fine with free Avast but Norton has more features you might want like auto online backup...
Plus call in support if you have an issue,

But the main product today is mbam premium I'd concentrate on that one if money is not a problem and the lifetime licenses will be gone eventually and it's a yearly subscription as most a-v products are.
Cheers.

Safety in computing is always a relative term. There is no such thing as absolute safety. malware has become very sophisticated in recent years and avoiding detection is a high priority. Even the very best av products with the latest definitions cannot guarantee you will not get infected or that your bank transactions are secure. Linux isn't 100% secure either.

Using Linux for banking is more secure while using only one OS is more convenient. The risks cannot be quantified in any meaningful way. Whether the added security is worth the inconvenience is a decision only you can make.

AV products have been discussed on this forum since the beginning. There are many opinions, sometimes very strongly held. There has never been any kind of consensus over which is the best.

Hi,
Just so your not referring to mbam free version I agree you'll be fine,
The free version of mbam is like playing catch up after an infection has already be installed = not good.
